Simple adoption within the family is a fast-growing method of establishing filiation within step families. Of the 10,000 adoption judgments handed down in 2018, 7,300, or 73%, were in the form of simple adoption, almost all of which (90%) were carried out by the spouse or ex-spouse of the adoptee’s parent. Sophie GONSARD, Althémis Le Vésinet Notaire, thought it would be interesting to highlight some of the tricky and sometimes little-known aspects of simple adoption, through a case study published in Solution Notaire Hebdo.

Sophie GONSARD is a partner Civil Law notary at Le Vésinet.
She joined the Althémis Group after having spent many years in charge of the engineering division of a wealth management consultancy company. She now oversees the Estate, Family and Estate department.
She co-writes several chapters of the Heritage and Family Law Mementos, as well as the book Assurance-vie by Éditions Francis Lefebvre.
She is a lecturer in the Master in Wealth Management at the University of Paris II Panthéon Assas.
